1. Deck the Hall
2. Jingle Bells
3. O Christmas Tree

These pieces make a terrific closer for your holiday concert. Familiar secular Christmas songs, complete with opportunities for the audience to join in, sure to send them singing on their way. The Distant Fire

Organ and Trumpet (optional Bass Drum and Susp. Cymbal)

This piece is a commemoration, a lament, a remembrance in the dark of violence and terror. It opens and closes with trumpet and organ, as at a funeral. Then, the dream intrudes, the scenes of explosions and sparks from far away, the rumblings and indistinct flashes of light, the scenes that we can't quite make out or understand. They fade, but not entirely, as we return to the present scene, brought back by the playing of "Taps", the traditional call for the fallen.

Heart-Child of the Spirit

SATB / organ, 4 handbells, windchimes or Zimbelstern
Text by Nancy Welliver, based on "Corde natus ex Parentis"
by Aurelius Clemens Prudentius, 4th century CE

With the familiar tune we associate with "Of The Father's Love Begotten," DIVINUM MYSTERIUM, these words more accurately reflect the old Latin chant "Corde natus ex Parentis." "You, the well-spring of all music, You, the silence at its end, were and are and ever shall be." The setting is easily learned and performed. The tenors sing with the basses almost all the time, and most of the part-singing is simply the melody sung canonically. The bell parts are very simple, and are intended to be played by 2 players.

In Solitude

Audio
SATB (male and female solos)/ two handbells (one player), optional organ
Text by Ruth Duck, Tune LAND OF REST

Serene, meditative setting of a beautiful text by Ruth Duck using a favorite tune from the Sacred Harp. Two soloists sing all the words, so it can be sung without the chorus with a sustaining keyboard (organ or synthesizer). The handbell parts are extremely simple, a repeating ring with only two bells.

She Was Dancing

Audio demo (generated by Sibelius)
SSA / piano
Text by Reginald Unterseher

This piece comes from a dream image. We see a dancing woman, alone at first, spinning with her arms spread wide. Her children join in under the starry sky. She begins to rise, and our eyes are drawn up, following her. Her twirling hair becomes the spiral galaxies, a nd the dance becomes the movement of the stars, all woven together. The piece is about a woman, it is about women, it is about Woman, it is about joy.
